McLeansville - William "Bill" Chavis, Sr., 85, entered life eternal on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Greensboro Rest Home. Funeral services will be held on February 17, 2011 at Laughlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 1417 Huffine Mill Road, Greensboro.
"Bill" as he was affectionately called, was born October 14, 1925 in Guilford County. He was a life-long member of Laughlin Memorial United Methodist Church. He served as Church Trustee, participated in the United Methodist Men and shared his bass voice in the Senior Choir. He was faithful member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. "Bill" served honorably in the United States Army. He worked for 30 years and retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company, Greensboro.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dora Slade Chavis, sons William Chavis, Jr., Sterling A. Chavis, and Rickie Chavis and a host of great-grand and grand-children, friends and relatives.
The home-going service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, February 17th. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. at Laughlin UMC.
Interment will immediately follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
