Obituary

William David Alston (W.D.), 73, was born December 31, 1945 in Greensboro, NC, the child of the late William Alston and the late Nannie McAdoo Dick.

He was a life-long member of Holmes Grove United Methodist Church. William was educated in the Guilford County Public School System, a graduate of James B. Dudley High School class of 1964. He attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 dev. He also earned the Mechanic Badge.

William enjoyed working and keeping busy. He had a janitorial business, Alston's Janitorial Service. He also retired from the United States Postal Service as a Mail Handler.

William enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a loyal friend to many people and loved long conversations.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Johnsie Mark Alston; daughters, Rhonda M. Hamilton and Renita Miller; sisters, Donna Alston Williams (James), Madie D. Rountree (James) and Janice D. Cobb (Glenn-deceased); brothers, Richard Dick (Pearl) and Raymond Dick (Patricia); two grandchildren; special cousin, Gloria Ann McAdoo; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Holmes Grove United Methodist Church, 1100 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro.  Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 pm followed by the service at 12:30 pm.
