IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilhelmina
Parker
August 26, 1941 – August 2, 2019
Wilhelmina Parker was the third child (three daughters) born to the late Reverend O.C. Parker and the late Mrs. Holly Parker on August 26, 1941 in Augusta, GA.
Reverend Parker died when Wilhelmina was 3 1/2 years old. She and her sisters lived with their maternal grandparents in South Carolina for four years. In 1950, the three girls and their mother went to Jamaica, New York to live. Wilhelmina was educated in the public school system of Queens, NY.
She earned a degree in Accounting from Pace University in New York.
Wilhelmina's entire working career was with JP Morgan Chase & Company (Chase Manhattan Bank), a period of more than 30 years. She did volunteer work for a few non-profits following her retirement.
Wilhelmina lived in Jamaica, NY until she moved to Greensboro in 2002, along with her mother, at the urging of her older sister, Ruth Rideout.
Wilhelmina immediately joined Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise upon the recommendation of one of her sister's friends. She joined The OPAL Ministry and did her best not to miss a meeting. Wilhelmina was very interested in Bible study. As of May 2019, she had completed nearly ten semesters of BSF (Bible Study International Fellowship).
She enjoyed traveling, mostly to the Caribbean and Latin American countries. She also enjoyed fact-finding inquiries, word games and word puzzles.
Wilhelmina was preceded in death by her four siblings from Reverend Parker's first marriage, sister, Ruth Rideout; as well as a nephew, Gary Rideout.
Wilhelmina's health began to decline due to a number of ailments that eventually collided with one another where each basically infringed on the remedy of the other. God saw her getting weaker and weaker so He dispatched His angels to bring her home on Friday afternoon, August 2, 2019.
Wilhelmina leaves behind her sister: Vernice Parker; nephews, Thomas Rideout and Shefton Parker; sister-in-law, Lynette Parker; grand-niece Tanisha Rideout and her mother, Deborah Rideout; uncle; Benjamin Holly (Elizabeth); aunts; Mamie Cave, Alpha Anderson and Dorothy Kirby; a 'beloved' goddaughter, Sharon Blair; and a host of cousins and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 at Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise, 612 Norwalk Street, Greensboro, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the service at 12 noon. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 N Ohenry Blvd., Greensboro, NC.
Hargett Funeral Service is assisting the family.
