Obituary

In a little town, Hartsville, South Carolina, a man child, the eighth of 14 children was born to the late Ruth and Bozie Ervin.  He was the first child to be born in the year 1940 in this small town.  He attended Butler Elementary and Butler High School in Hartsville.

Wade Wilber Ervin, Sr. was baptized at the age of 12 at Jerusalem Baptist Church in that same town, under the leadership of Pastor C. Jones.  In the year 1958, he came to New York, where he met and later married Mary Miller.  He is the father of 7 children.

On January 1, 1970, Wade joined the Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of his father-in-law, Doctor Julius Miller.  Wade has often said "On January 1, 1970, I joined the Macedonia Baptist Church, but it wasn't until January 1, 1988, that I joined the body of Christ."  Wade was ordained as Deacon on December 16, 1990.  Deacon Wade Ervin served faithfully on the Board of Trustees, the Board of Deacons, as an assistant Sunday School Administrator, and was a member of the Male Chorus.  He faithfully attended Bible studies and welcomed other duties when requested.

In September 1994, Deacon Wade Ervin enrolled in a 2 year Navigators Church Discipleship course.  During the end of this course, he proclaimed that God had called him to preach the Gospel.  Verbally announcing his calling, on October 1, 1996, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and Spiritual leader, Reverend Clyde Shell, Deacon Wade Ervin and Reverend Clyde Shell jointly founded and established the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Rockaway Beach, New York.  On December 29, 1996 Deacon Wade Ervin preached his first sermon at Jerusalem Baptist Church and was awarded his license to preach the Gospel as a Minister of God.  One year later he was licensed as Reverend.  On December 6, 1998, Reverend Clyde Shell, the Pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church was called from labor to reward.  After a period of mourning, the church family called a meeting and Reverend Wade Ervin was unanimously elected to Pastor Jerusalem True Baptist Church.

In 2009, Reverend Ervin retired as Pastor due to health issues and re-located to Greensboro, North Carolina.  He travelled back and forth to New York until 2012, when he became a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he continued to serve as needed, under the leadership of Pastor Howard Woods.

On Friday, August 21 st , Reverend Ervin went to see Jesus from his lazy boy chair, his bible still open to the last scripture he read, Matthew 28, regarding the resurrection.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 children, Mary Beth (Jeff) and Alex and 7 siblings, Willie James, George (Nora), Larry (Vanessa), Charles (Corrine), Abbie, Anna, and Margaret.
