Obituary

Virginia Carter Russom was born on October 8, 1930 in Guilford County, North Carolina to the union of the late Rural Carter and Anna Carter. On February 6, 2022, Virginia was  called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Virginia was the youngest of her siblings. She was the nurturer of her family. She loved her family and took care of them all before their passing. Virginia was an awesome cook. We loved her chocolate cakes, brown sugar pies and chicken & dumplings.

She was a housewife, caregiver, and domestic worker.

Virginia was a devoted member of St. James A. M. E. Church in Oak Ridge, NC. She served diligently as President of the Miller- Taylor Women Missionary Society, Superintendent of Sunday School, choir member and usher.

Virginia was married to the late Curtis E. Russom for 68 years before God called him home to Glory. She was also preceded in death by her son, Porter Russom and daughter, Louise R. Brooks; siblings, Gladys Montgomery, Narvie Carter, and Leroy Carter.

She leaves to cherish her legacy; Deacon Curtis Wayne Russom (Carolyn) of Belews Creek, NC and Elder Timothy Dexter Russom (Margaret) of Stokesdale, NC. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grands and 6 great-great-grands and a God Daughter, Mary Vaughn. Also leaving to cherish her memory are nieces, nephews, cousins and her lifelong neighbors and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro.  Visitation with the family begins at  11:30 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm.  Interment will follow in at St. James AME Church, 6709 Sandylea Road, Oak Ridge, NC.
