Velma Brenda Rogers, moved onto the next phase of existence November 22, 2020, surrounded by love. Velma was born at Harlem Hospital on June 14th 1950, to parents Cleveland Fitz Fullerton and Carrie Lue (nee Gaskin) Curry Smith-Fullerton. As a child growing up in the 50s and 60s, she was able to experience the vibrance of Harlem and the Bronx, NY which molded the charismatic and bright person we all knew, loved and cherished.
Velma's life was full of beautiful moments that we could all be envious of, from singing at the Apollo, meeting James Baldwin while walking down the streets of Paris to having one of her songs featured on the Boondocks. Velma Brenda made and marched to her own tune, enjoying life and living life on her own terms. She embraced life and had a sense of adventure.
Velma was married to the late John "Jack" David Rogers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland and Carrie Lue; and siblings, Hollie Curry, Jr. Robert Curry, and Yvette Fullerton.
With love in their hearts, Velma leaves to mourn her son, Roger David Rogers of Savannah, GA; daughter, Caroline Holly Rogers; granddaughters, Zoe Dare Carmon Rogers, LaNiya Brianna Hicks, and Ayza Sade Andrews; grandson, Enzo Jazari Andrews all of Greensboro; sister, Paula Sandra Jenkins (Julian) of Burlington, NJ; her beloved soul sister Toni Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved family and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro.
