Mrs. Tovonda S. Currence entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at her home in New Jersey. She was born on January 9, 1956 in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Clest "Rev" Sanders and Cleatus Barksdale Sanders.
Tovonda was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School. She completed a degree in Early Childcare Education at Guilford Technical Institute. After moving to New Jersey following her marriage, Tovonda was an active member of the School Board and served as PTA
President for Mine Hill, New Jersey.
She was the most devoted wife, mother, and friend a person could ever know or hope for, whom enjoyed cooking, traveling, being active in her community and involved with the educational system.
She is survived by her husband,Larry Jerome Currence, Sr.; son, Jerome Currence; daughter, Chantal Currence;brother, Anthony "Chip" Barksdale (Brenda);aunt,Melvyna McPherson; uncle,Hampton Sanders (Hazeline);mother-in-law, Dorothy Currence; sister-in-law, Nikeata Currence Walker; brother-in-law, Walter "Skip" Rankin (Christel); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro. Visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am followed by a service at 12:00 pm.
