IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susie White
Mccray
August 11, 1938 – December 4, 2021
Susie Mae Gertrude White McCray was born on August 11, 1938, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina to the late Melvin and Runette White. She was the fifth of ten siblings. On Saturday evening, December 4, 2021, our loving heavenly father decided it was time for her to take flight and receive her wings. She will be truly missed, but God knows best.
Susie Mae was educated in Blakley County, South Carolina, however received her Adult High School diploma later in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was married and was the mother of five children, who were devoted to taking care of their mom during her illness. In Susie Mae's early years after moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, she worked in the domestic field and Griffin Bakery. She later joined the staff at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital (Cone Health) and retired in 2003, after 14 years of service. Susie Mae was known for her cooking, baking and as a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and most importantly a God-fearing woman.
Mother Susie Mae accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age while attending Jerusalem A.M.E. Church in Lane, South Carolina, until moving to North Carolina. At that time, she joined Wells Temple Church of God in Christ under the pastorship of the late Bishop Wyoming Wells in 1963. She faithfully continued her membership under the late Bishop Ithiel Clemmons, and now under Pastor Herman G. Platt until her health declined and wasn't physically able to attend. But she was able to listen to the services whenever possible through livestreams. She was a member of the Mothers Board.
Mother McCray was preceded in death by one sister Stella Tubbs; five brothers, Kalip White, Blease White, Henry White, Melvin White, Jr., and Gerald White; two grandsons, Travis McCray and Ronald (Ron) McCray; two son-in-laws, Frank (June) Kelly and Joseph Haley, III.
Left to cherish her memories are four daughters, Claudetta Haley. Gertis McCray Kelly, Cynthia McCray and Angela McCray all of Greensboro, NC; one son, Otis McCray, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters Mary-Ella Leach, Isabella McCrae and Hattie Martin all of Baltimore, MD and Dollie (George) Pushia of Andrews, SC; one brother Marion (Angela) McClary; four sister-in-laws Pauline McCray, Rosa Bell (Henry) Wilson of Greensboro, NC; Vernestine White and Geneva (Robert) Brown of Lane, SC; two brother-in-laws Luther (Janie) McCray and Charlie (Joyce) McCray of Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends and church members of Wells Memorial Church of God in Christ.
