Obituary

Sanok Hahn Thompson, affectionately known to everyone as “Candy,” was born on December 16, 1947, in Seoul, Korea, where she was born and raised alongside her parents and siblings.

She later relocated to the United States with her beloved husband, Eddie Lee Thompson, and made Virginia and North Carolina her home for the majority of her life, including the Chatham, Danville, and High Point areas. Candy was a hard-working, honest, caring, and giving woman. She retired after many years of dedicated work in a textile plant. She was known for her strong work ethic, generous spirit, and willingness to help others.

Candy loved people and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed joking, laughing, and talking with others, and her personality made her someone people genuinely enjoyed being around. She was a devoted mother and took great pride in her son. One of the most important things in Candy’s life was making sure her son knew how deeply she loved him. She expressed her love often by simply saying, “I love you.” Her love extended to her grandchildren, family, friends, church family, and her husband’s family, with whom she shared a special and loving bond.

Candy was a member of Korean American Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, located in High Point, North Carolina. Her faith and relationships within her church community were meaningful parts of her life, and she was dearly loved by church members and friends.

Candy found joy in the simple things in life. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, watching Korean movies, shopping, and cooking. She was especially known for preparing delicious Korean meals and sharing her food with others. Cooking was one of the many ways she expressed her love and generosity.Candy was also known for being honest and straightforward. She was not afraid to tell you about yourself when she believed you were wrong—but she did so because she cared. Her humor, honesty, warmth, and giving heart created memories that will remain with those who knew and loved her.

Candy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Lee Thompson, and her parents.

She leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Eddie Lamont Thompson; her beloved granddaughters, Essence Latierra Thompson and Emariah Lyasia Thompson; her siblings residing in Korea; and a host of extended family members, friends, church family, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.

Those who knew Candy will remember her for her Korean cooking, her laughter and jokes, her honesty, her generosity, and most of all, her love for people and her family. She gave freely, loved deeply, and made sure those around her knew they mattered. Though she is no longer with us, the love she shared, the meals she prepared, the laughter she created, and the memories she gave will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Rest peacefully, Candy. Your love will never be forgotten.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 2:00 pm followed by the service at 3:00 pm.
