Obituary
In the early morning hour of Saturday, March 12, 2016 God sent a heavenly angel who whispered, your work here is done thy good and faithful servant take your rest. Today, we celebrate the life of Sandra Carolyn Chavis Burnett affectionately known to many as Peggy.
Sandra was born December 4th, 1941 in Gibsonville, NC to the late James R. and Torrence F. Chavis.
She grew up in Gibsonville, NC where she attended Lee Holt Elementary School and Sedalia High School, graduating class of 1959.
She had a love for her family, and an extra dose of love for her grandchildren, and her newest addition her great grandson.
After her health began to decline she retired from her 30 plus years of working at P. Lorillard.
She loved to fellowship, and she loved God which she showed in many ways. One was by cooking. We all loved for her to cook where many would gather together and fellowship and enjoy some of her fabulous meals. She loved flowers and was always ready for an adventuresome road trip. She was always there when needed whether near or far.
Left to mourn yet cherish her memories are her daughters, Cheryl R. Burnett, Donna A. Burnett, Linda B. Clyburn and son, Brian E. Burnett all of Greensboro, NC. Her grandchildren, Ashley N. Burnett of Charlotte, NC, Phillip R. Clyburn, Amanda R. Burnett, and Brandon A. Clyburn all of Greensboro, NC and great grandson, Blake L. Burnett; brother, Delacy B. Chavis Sr. (Rosemary) of Kernersville, NC; Elsie M. Cobb of Greensboro, NC; Montrose C. Mosely (Thomas) of Los Angeles, CA; brother in law, Eugene Pennix of Greensboro, NC and a great number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Norma J. Pennix; brothers, Warner L. and William M. Chavis; and her dearly beloved companion and pet, Prince.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016. Visitation with the family begins at 10:30 am followed by the service at 11:00 am at Faith Baptist Church, 701 Slade Street, Gibsonville, NC. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
