IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel Eugene
Williamson
December 29, 1975 – April 28, 2024
"Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever. So don't look at the troubles we see now; rather we fix our gaze on the things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever." 2 Corinthians 5:16b-18 NLT)
Samuel (Sammy) Eugene Williamson departed this earthly life and entered into eternal glory on Sunday night April 28, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital. Sammy fought a good fight for more than fifteen years with Huntington's Disease, which is a rare progressive, incurable hereditary neurological disease that causes total physical and mental deterioration over a 10-25 year period. There are no treatments to slow the progression and currently there is no known cure. There is ongoing research, but nothing yet is promising. Sammy was brave and fought this condition with pride and dignity for as long as he could. This hereditary disease also took the life of his older sister, Veronica Michelle Williamson-Partee on April 26, 2018. Their father also succumbed to it as well.
Sammy was born on December 29, 1975 to the late Walter Vernon Williamson and Rev. Deborah Gwynn Holland in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina with his loving mother, sisters, and stepfather (the late Coy Eudell Holland). He was reared in the Guilford County School System and graduated from Ragsdale High School. Sammy loved school and learning; he never missed a day in school from kindergarten through 12th grade. Sammy was always an A student and never had to study, once he heard it, he knew. He was an avid reader as well as an artist. Sammy was a track star at Ragsdale and took them to the state championship. He also played basketball and tried football as well, although he wasn't very good in contact sports, he was willing to give them a try as he had a love for all sports. Sammy was recruited by a plethora of colleges and universities across the country due to his high SAT scores as well as his academic achievements. Sammy was accepted to UNC-Chapel Hill where he studied for two years, but eventually graduated from High Point University with a degree in Human Relations.
Sammy professed his love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School, was a member of the Junior choir, the Christian Youth Council, the Youth Usher Board, and he traveled on youth trips.
Sammy loved to make people laugh, especially his family, he had compassion for everyone and had a will to make everyone he met to feel accepted. Sammy never met a stranger and considered everyone a friend.
Sammy was united in matrimony to Monaca Maye, and from this union was born twin daughters, Allison Samone and Amber Samanatha Williamson. Sammy cherished his daughters, and loved them with his whole heart, just the mention of their names would brighten his countenance.
Others left to cherish him lovingly is his devoted mother, Rev. Deborah G. Holland; sister, Corinthia Holland-Hayes; aunts, Elder Patricia Gwynn Lowe (Anthony), Judge Everna Gwynn-McCray, Major Evelyn Gwynn, RN, Brenda Gwynn, and Margaret Gwynn; uncles, Robert W. Gwynn (Diane) and Nelson Williamson (Cheryl); special cousin and brother from another mother, Lea Gwynn; beloved caregiver and best friend, William (Bill) Wilson; and a host of great aunts, cousins, nephews, and one niece.
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down we will have a house in Heaven, an eternal body made for us by God Himself and not by human hands.' ~2 Corinthians 5:1
