Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Nancy Morehead Miller was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was born on January 18, 1921, in Greensboro, N.C., to the late Leon Morehead and Maud Thomas Morehead, the youngest of five children. She departed this life on Friday evening, May 1, 2015, at her home. She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Miller accepted Christ in childhood and was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Greensboro, where she was active until her health began to decline. She was a gifted singer and member of the Fred Huntley Choral Society at Shiloh.
After graduating from Dudley High School in Greensboro, Mrs. Miller completed cosmetology training in Hampton, Va., and worked there as a beautician. She also worked in Greensboro as a nursing assistant at Moses Cone Hospital, in the medical office of Dr. George Evans.

In the 1940s, Mrs. Miller married Cecil Calvin "C.C" Miller, a well-known Greensboro school teacher. They made their home together in Greensboro until his death in 1993. Homemaking, cooking, caring for and spending time with her family and close friends were her passions. A mother of four, Mrs. Miller enjoyed cooking good meals and serving them in refined style. She was always a gracious hostess, never minding when her children brought over extra friends for dinner.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Preston C. and Calvin H. Miller; sisters, Grace Morehead and Mildred Baker; and brothers, Herschel and Clyde Morehead.

She is survived by her daughter and caretaker, Jacqueline Miller; son, Milton Morehead; daughter-in-law, Flontina Rogers Miller; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, and nieces, Carol LaVerne Banks, Denise Dearman Sturdivant (Horace), and daughters of her brother-in-law Aaron Miller; nephews, Terry Dearman and Stephen Baker; and her very special cousins, Murnell Cooper & family and Norma Keck.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8, at 11:30 a.m.. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
