Ruth Boyd Chea was born October 24, 1943 in Portsmouth, Virginia.  She was the daughter of the late Emma Jean Giles and Robert Foster.  Ruth was raised by her maternal grandmother Salonia Joyner Boyd and at the age of 5, they moved to New York City.

Ruth also known as "Ruthie" aged 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Salisbury, NC on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

She was educated in the public schools of NYC, but left school with the birth of her eldest daughter.  She later received her GED diploma and attended Bronx Community College.

Ruth had many jobs in her youth, before she settled into her 25+ years career as a Teacher's Assistant with Community Life Headstart, Inc. in New York City.

Ruth met and married Charles W. Chea on January 5, 1977 and they recently celebrated 44 years of marriage.  She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed word search puzzles and had a great love of various music from rap to R&B.

She always wanted the very best for her family and even as her health declined her thoughts were for her family.  She remained feisty and full of life.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her husband, Charles Chea of Bronx, NY; daughters, Katherine of Salisbury, NC and Christine of Bronx, NY; grandson, Kéron of Bronx, NY; and a host of relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Williams Funeral Service, 5628 Broadway, Bronx, NY 10463 at 10:30 am.
