On the morning of October 13, 2022, in Greensboro, North Carolina God called Robert Young Johnson (81) home to eternal rest.
He was born to the late Charles and Sophia Rebecca Nixon Johnson on April 28, 1941 in Pender County, North Carolina.
Robert graduated from C.F. Pope High School in 1959. He was a dedicated Pirate and loved his classmates. He furthered his education by attending Harris Barber College in Raleigh, NC. After which, he worked on the campus of A&T North Carolina State University. He subsequently purchased building space and became owner/operator of his own barber business named TV Barber Shop on Phillips Ave in Greensboro, NC. Robert loved the barber business and was well known for his skills and knowledge. He was a great businessman that didn't mind teaching others how to be successful in life. He was no stranger to work and retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company after 37 years of service. In his earlier years he loved to fish and work in his yard.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Halls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Burgaw, NC. He loved his church and continued to provide monetary support throughout his adult life.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin R. Johnson; two sons, Calvin Robinson and Gregory Johnson; one grandson, Timothy Emellio Bennett.
He leaves to cherish his memories four children, Linda Williams (Bobby), Charles Johnson (Doris), Marvin R. Johnson, Krystal Penniegraft all of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Carolyn O. Baker of Bowie, MD and Ruby Nobles of Hyattsville, MD; one brother, Nathan Johnson of Burgaw, NC; ten grandchildren, Emory Johnson, Yante' Mims (Derek), Candice Bennett, Meikala Williams, Imanuel Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Quran Johnson, T'Kara Jones, Tamara Johnson, T'Kia Johnson; three great grandchildren, Vantiless Cunningham Jr, Cierra Johnson, Tristan Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 in Hargett Funeral Service, Inc., 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, October 22 in Rescue Temple #1, 601 Franklin Blvd., Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 10:30 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Burgaw Cemetery, Burgaw, NC.
