Percy Samuel Clark was born on May 20th, 1931 to Charlie Arthur Clark and Sennie Myrtle Penn in Surry County, N.C. He was the oldest of six children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eula Mae, his oldest son Alton, and his brothers Ansley Penn Clark, and Dennis Stanley Clark.
He was married to Eula Mae Scott for 65 years. From the marriage they had two children, Alton and Kerry. Percy spent the bulk of his life taking care of family — his mother, his wife's mother, and his son. He was a man who worked hard in tobacco, and also as a machinist at Lorillard Tobacco Company. He was a devoted and dedicated grandfather who retired and quit smoking cigars the day his grandson was born. A stoic man of few words, he accomplished things that many are not aware of. Making sure that his parents had a home first, he moved his family from a trailer to a home in Browns Summit. When asked why he moved to Browns Summit he said "I had a wife and two kids, I lived in a trailer with a hole in it, I had to get out of there, and this was the only place I could find." The Klan burned a cross in his yard but it did not deter him. He lived there with his family for more than 56 years. He petitioned the state to have Jackson School Road paved. When the commissioner told him no, he would not pave the road, Percy drove to Raleigh and when he finished with them they told him they would be there Monday to start on the road. In 1999 he traveled to Princeville, N.C. and volunteered to clean up after Hurricane Floyd. He had a large garden whatever vegetables he grew he always shared with neighbors. He served in the U.S Army in Korea where he earned a purple heart. If he met a Veteran he advised them on their VA benefits. An unassuming soul, he quietly went about doing good deeds.
Percy leaves to cherish his memories his son Kerry Samuel Clark (Sherry); a grandson he was so proud of, Kullen Samuel Clark; brothers Charles (Peggy), Dwight (longtime friend Betty Cooley), and sister Virginia Arnese Foulks (George). He always inquired about all his nieces and nephews.
At 91, Percy was taken from us way too soon. We were all so blessed that we were allowed that much time with him. He was an inspiration. It seems he knew a little something about everything, a walking Almanac. Percy Samuel Clark is gone and cannot be forgotten. He left a little piece of him everywhere he went.
