Michal Letrice Thompson, 50, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Michal Letrice Thompson Powell departed this life Wednesday evening, April 23rd, 2025. Michal, 50, was born in Trenton, New Jersey, to Rosemary Thompson and the late Michael Singleton. She was the second youngest of three siblings.
Throughout her younger years, Michal grew up in Long Island, New York. She later moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where she finished school at Carver High School. After high school, Michal joined the United States Army, where she was active duty in South Korea and went on to be honorably discharged.
She was introduced to the love of her life; Roger Powell, after being introduced by best friend, Margaret, in Wyandanch, New York. They later went on to get married on July 31 , 2004 in Trenton, New Jersey, under a beautiful gazebo, surrounded by friends and family. They grew their family by having two beautiful children, Tykajia and Tymere Powell. As husband and wife, they chose to relocate to Greensboro NC to raise their kids.
Settling on their forever home in Whitsett; Michal continued to be a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed singing, cooking, and spending time with her loved ones. Michal dedicated her life to doing what she loved. From crafting, to event planning, to cheering at community events, and most importantly being encouraging while being there for her family. She left an indelible stamp on any and everyone's heart that she crossed paths with her smile and infectious laugh.
Michal was proceeded in death by: her father, Michael Singleton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Singleton and Annie Jean Powell; sister in law, Angela "Angie" Powell, and nephew, Maurice "Scooter" Thompson.
She leaves behind her mother, Rosemary Thompson; loving husband, Roger Powell and beloved children whom she poured so much love and care into: TyKajia Powell and Tymere Powell; brothers, William "Billy" Thompson, Maurice Thompson (Eldora) and (brother in law) Mark Coote; sisters, April Thompson along with sister in laws, Stacy Powell and Yvette Powell Coote; In-Laws, Linda Powell and Roger Powell Sr.; nieces and nephews: Keamber Roberson, Kimoni Yearwood, Kaaria Freer, McKyle Thompson; adored pet: Marley; as well as a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, God Children, and adored friends.
Michal Letrice Thompson Powell was the embodiment of quiet strength and unwavering faith. Through every challenge, she carried herself with grace, courage, and perseverance. Her love was fierce, her spirit unbreakable, and her presence a gift to all who knew her. Though her journey on this earth has ended, her legacy of strength lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, May 1 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel; visitation with the family begins at 10:00 am followed by the service at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery.
