Mattie Harris Jones, the 6th and youngest child born to the late Willie and Alice Harris, left her earthly home and entered into eternity on July 9,2022. She was 86 years old.

Mattie grew up in the Poplar Hill community attending the Granville County Schools. After graduating from Hawley High School in Creedmoor, NC she moved to Durham, NC to live with her sister and to continue her education at the North Carolina College which today is known as North Carolina Central University. She lived in New York for a while and finally settled down in California until recent years when she joined her daughter in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five siblings.

She leaves to cherish precious memories to three sons, Michael Smith of Alhambra, California, Darryl Harris of Oceanside, California, and Kelvin Harris of Murrieta, California; one daughter, Nakia Johns of Greensboro, North Carolina; three grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 in Hawkins Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 2199 Grove Hill Rd, Franklinton, NC at 11:00 am.
