Obituary

Mattie Wallace Haley was born on December 19, 1925 in Chester, South Carolina to the late Wilkes Wallace and Emma Crosby Wallace.

Mattie was no stranger to hard work as displayed in her work ethics. She was employed by Dixie Uniform Service now named Aramark for fifty-seven years retiring at the age of 73 in 2001.

Mattie had a very quiet, sweet demeanor. She never talked negatively about anyone. She was a faithful member of gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the United Usher Board, Floral Club, and Ward #4. She along with her sister were the church custodians for several years.

Mattie loved listening to gospel music and Gethsemane's broadcast on the radio. Mattie was often seen mowing her lawn and planting flowers for as long as she was physically able.

Mattie is survived by 6 children who she loved and adored: Irene Benton (Ernest), Gerald Haley (Catholine), Ronald Wallace, Sharon Nash-Sellars (Robert), Maria Smith (Kevin), and Greta Johnson (Bryant) all of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, thirteen great grand children, and one great-great grandchild.

Mattie is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Haley; brother, James William Wallace, Sr.; and sisters, Rosabell Wallace Jones, Louise Waddell Crosby, and Lillie Wallace Fewell.

A homegoing service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 3701 Heath Street, Greensboro, NC.
