"Her children arise and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28

With hearts filled with gratitude for a life well lived and faith in God's eternal promises, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mary Magdalene Parker Simmons, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the age of 89.

Mary was born on June 1, 1936, in Summerfield, North Carolina, to Rhoda Parker. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Alexander Parker, Sr. and Addie Parker, whose steadfast love, wisdom, and guidance helped shape the foundation of her life. Through their example, Mary developed the strong faith, caring spirit, and enduring values that would become hallmarks of her character and a blessing to generations of family and friends.

From an early age, Mary displayed a quiet strength, determination, and deep appreciation for family. She possessed a nurturing spirit that would become one of her defining characteristics throughout her life.

On January 1st, 1959, Mary united in holy matrimony with Donald Lee Simmons. Their marriage was a testimony of love, commitment, and perseverance. Together they built a home grounded in faith, family, and devotion. Through the years, they shared life's joys and challenges while creating a legacy that continues through their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mary dedicated nearly three decades of faithful service to Sears, Roebuck and Company, where she worked from 1962 until her retirement in 1990. She was admired for her diligence, professionalism, and unwavering work ethic.

Most importantly, Mary loved the Lord and committed her life to Him. She was a faithful member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Gospel Choir, and a generous donor to the ministry’s food pantry effort. Her love for Scripture, prayer, worship, and Bible study remained a constant source of strength throughout her life. Her faith was not merely something she professed—it was something she faithfully lived each day.

Mary found joy in many of life's simple pleasures. She loved sewing, traveling, gardening, and reading. Flowers held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in cultivating beauty wherever she lived. She enjoyed the ocean and beach and made a tradition of taking her grandchildren to the beach annually. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of Carolina Tarheel basketball and enjoyed following the team through the years.

Above all else, Mary treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love became a source of strength and inspiration for those blessed to know her.

Those who knew Mary will remember her warm smile, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and generous heart. She possessed a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Whether through a kind word, a heartfelt prayer, a home-cooked meal, or simply her presence, Mary left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around her.

While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the countless memories she leaves behind and the assurance that she is now resting in the presence of her Savior. Her life was a testimony to faith, family, perseverance, and grace.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memory loving daughters, Gwen Miller (Garvin) and Delsa D. Christian (Lee); her grandchildren, Dontasia Lockette (Julian), Ayana Simmons, L. Percy Christian III, and London-Ashlee Christian; and her cherished great-grandson, Josiah Alexander Dudley; and a host of relatives, friends, church family members, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and love.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Lee Simmons; her son, Donald Lee "Boot" Simmons, Jr.; her mother, Rhoda Parker, and her beloved grandparents, Alexander Parker, Sr. and Addie Parker.

Today, we celebrate a life that was beautifully lived and a legacy that will continue through the generations she loved so dearly. Mary's earthly journey is complete, her race is finished, and her faith has become sight.

As we remember and honor her life, we also cherish the words she so often spoke and that perfectly reflected her heart: "Love You More"

What began as a simple expression became her signature reminder of affection and devotion. Those words will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends, serving as a lasting testament to the love she shared so freely and abundantly.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her faith, wisdom, compassion, and love will remain with us always.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23

"Love You More."

A simple phrase that became her signature expression of affection and remains a treasured reminder of the love Mary shared so freely with family and friends. Her voice may be silent, but her love will continue to speak for generations to come. ❤️
