Obituary

Mrs. Mary "Mae Frances" Pettiford was born on January 8, 1947, in Guilford County as daughter of the late Mrs. Alice Gray and Romey Williams.

She grew up in Wake County with her Aunt Willa Williams where she graduated and later became a CNA for her career.

She loved helping any and everyone. Mae never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation with a smile. Later in her life she enjoyed traveling and singing.

Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother, awesome sister, and great friend. Mae Frances, as she was called by family & friends, enjoyed cooking, music, shopping, and GOOD OLDE FISH FRY. Spending time with her family was always a highlight of her day, especially being around her grandkids and great grand kids.

After 2 ½ years battling with declining health and pain. She peacefully transitioned on July 29, 2023, at 2am at Moses Cone Hospital.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, Alice Gray; father, Romey Williams; and brothers, Jackie Clybourne and Mike Gray.

Her memories will forever be cherished by her 3 daughters, Donna Spencer (William), Yvette Pettiford, and Dana Johnson (Jeff) all of Greensboro; 2 grandchildren, Mishay Pettiford of Charlotte and Jamal Pettiford of Greensboro; 3 great-grandkids, Elijah Bigelow of Durham, Kenneth Chambers and Madison Chambers of Charlotte; 4 sisters, Linda Gibson (Marvin) of Green Level, Lisa Gray of Burlington, Geraldine Chavious (Martin) of Chapel Hill, and Sara Fisher (Hudon) of Baltimore; 3 brothers, Richard Gray (Carrie Mae) of Burlington, Leroy Gray of Burlington and Lenoard "Scoon" Gray of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing of Ms. Pettiford is 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 3 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel,  905 East Market Street Greensboro, NC.

The homegoing celebration is Friday, August 04, 2023 in The Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, visitation and service times are 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. respectively.
