Ms. Mary Ruth Whitsett Gibson transitioned to her heavenly home Thursday August 4, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born June 12, 1925, to the late Earlie and Malissa Whitsett in Greensboro, NC. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Reginald Cortez Whitsett; five brothers, John Calvin, Richard, Edward, Thurman and Robert Whitsett; four sisters, Louise Whitsett, Myrtle Whitsett, Roberta Hooker, and Helen Goins.
Mary was a Secretary of Transportation for postal courier services as well as a homemaker. She was an active member of Union Memorial UM Church for decades. She loved her Union family, and it showed in her works and worship. Mary participated in several committees over the years. A true Servant of God, a Prayer Warrior, and Missionary. A devoted member of Bethel Prayer Breakfast at Bethel AME Church.
Mary loved to praise and worship the Lord. If you needed prayer, she prayed for you like no other. Sincere in her faith and beliefs. She loved to sing and was always willing to help people in need. If you were hungry, she made sure you ate. Thank you, Jesus.
Left to cherish her precious memories are daughters, Faye Horton (caregiver) and Jewel Escobar of Greensboro, NC; son, Mark Whitsett; granddaughters, Nicole Whitsett of NY and Melissa Horton of Marietta, GA; goddaughter, Tanya Williams; dog, Reggie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was and always will be loved by her family.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 in Hargett Funeral Service, Inc., 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 16 in Union Memorial United Methodist Church, 1012 E. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, visitation with the family begins at 11:00 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
