A farewell to my family and friends

Hello everybody!

Thanks for coming to my home-going celebration.  I know some of you shook your heads in disbelief when you heard I had left you. Me too, but on March 24, 2023, my heavenly father told me my work here on earth was through. As my favorite scripture Psalms 116:12 says, "The LORD has been so good to me! How can I ever pay him back?"

Ernest "Henry" McCollum was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on December 10, 1935, to the late Floyd McCollum and Mary Ella Wallington. Ernest was educated in the Guilford County Schools system and graduated in 1952.

Ernest was employed as a truck driver for 54 years where he traveled to many different places. He retired in 2009 from OmniSource Recycling Company.

Ernest was united in marriage to the late Mrs. Catherine Stokes-McCollum where they shared 22 years of marriage together.

Ernest was proceeded in death by his parents Floyd McCollum and Mary Ella Wallington, his grandparents Sallie and Charlie Carmack, his wife Catherine Stokes-McCollum, daughter in law Paula Stokes, and son in law Otis Moore.

Ernest was affectionately known as "Henry" to his family and friends. He will be remembered for always being dependable. When it came to family and friends sick or not, he was always going to make a way for them to get to work or their doctor's appointments. He always made everyone he encountered laugh at his jokes and punch lines. Henry was a firecracker and had a comeback for everything. To know him, was to love him and he will be missed!

Ernest leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters Ernestine Moore and Alisa Dickson (Randy);

Bonus Children; Kevin Stokes & Toie Bell; Godchildren Darryl (Anita) & Roslyn (Shawn); 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. Long-time friends: Steven, Lauren, Peggy, Kenny, Tony, and Sherman; and a host of other family and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, March 31 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, April 1 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel; visitation with the family begins at 12:30 pm followed by the service at 1:00 pm.
