Mrs. Lucy Joann McGregor, 88 of Greensboro, NC died Saturday April 11, 2026. Visitation with the family and funeral service is10:00 a.m. respectively Monday April 27, 2026 in New Zion Missionary Baptist Church 408 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow in Gwynn's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery 242 Gwynn's Chapel Road Pelham, NC. Lucy Joann Brown was born in Pelham, North Carolina on November 09, 1937, to the late Reverend Joe Cephas and Bertha Badgett Brown. She was the second eldest of ten and a guiding light to her nine siblings. Lucy’s early life began on in Pelham, in a home filled with closeness, love, laughter, work and Christian values. This laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to service, friends, family. she strengthened her Christian values attending Sunday School at Gwynn’s Chapel Baptist Church, was baptized and became an active member. After leaving Pelham, a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina, and Morse School of Business in Connecticut.
She embarked on her professional journey with a banking career in the bond and trustee department where she worked diligently, becoming a supervisor at Hartford National Bank, which after serval mergers became Bank of America. After retiring from the Bank of America, Lucy cared for Seniors in home care as a caregiver with Home Instead. She actively served and led at Vacation Bible School at New Zion Missionary Baptist. Although retired, she remained active by working as caregiver supporting families and their loved ones, taking care of her grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandchildren. Furthermore, Lucy had a love for travel, spending time traveling and to Asia and living in China, and across the United States, hosting bus tours, cooking, and enjoying watching sports.
Lucy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life and relationship to God the Father and His Son Lord Jesus Christ, and by His Holy Spirit, served with humility and devotion in several ministries at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church as member, choir member, trustee, and at Gwen’s Chapel Baptist Church. Her gratitude to God for the many opportunities and experiences she encountered was a testament to her unwavering faith and the source of her strength and generosity. As we bid farewell to Lucy Joann McGregor, we remember the profound impact she had on our hearts and communities. Her legacy of integrity and compassion will continue to inspire future generations. We celebrate a life lived extraordinarily, not in sorrow, but with deep gratitude for the blessing of her presence among us. Lucy Joann McGregor was a beacon of faith, love, and service. Her unwavering dedication to her family, community, and faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her life exemplified the values of service, intercession, compassion, integrity, and perseverance, inspiring everyone she touched. As we remember and celebrate her remarkable journey, we carry forward her legacy, cherishing the memories and lessons she imparted. Her spirit will continue to guide and uplift us, reminding us of the power of a life lived with purpose and grace.
Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Novella Stewart, Ruth Adamson, Betty Brown, and her brother, James Brown. Lucy was preceded in death by her brothers, John Brown, Bernard Brown, William Brown, Warren Brown, Carrie Maxine Brown Williams, husbands , William Henry Ross Sr, and Noel McGregor Sr. and son William Henry Ross Jr. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on through her family and all those who were touched by her kindness.
Lucy is lovingly remembered by her son David Michael Ross and Linda Gresham Ross, her daughter-in-law, and her daughter, Marilyn Maxine Davis. She also leaves behind her beloved grandsons, Gabriel Ross, Joshua Ross, Will Floyd, Scotty Floyd, Calvin Floyd, her beloved granddaughters Danielle Ross Boykin, Aretha Nichols, Jordan Ross, and Aaron Ross. her great-grandsons Sayvon Boyd, Patrick Thomas; and great-granddaughter Brittany Brown, and Brianna Brown, Nevah Floyd, and Jace Floyd and great grandchildren Nevah Floyd, and Jace Floyd and great-great grandchildren Judon Brown and Journii Brown who are the apples of her eyes. Her Sisters and Brothers in Christ at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. And Coworkers Lynette Hamilton, at Bank of America, and at Home Instead. She is lovingly remembered by the families from all family members from the Brown, Badgett, Graves, Ross and McGregor Families.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday April 27, at 10:00 am
in the sanctuary of : New Zion Missionary Baptist Church 408 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Greensboro, NC 27406. Interment will follow in the Gwynn's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 242 Gwynns Chapel Rd, Pelham, NC 27311.
