Lucille J. Martin was born in Lauren, South Carolina on Christmas Day. She was the precious daughter of the late Lucinda J. Hill. Lucille transitioned on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 in Moses Cone Hospital with her loved ones by her side.
Lucille was educated in the Guilford County Public School System. She attended Washington Street Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro. After becoming an empty nester, she worked at SEARS for over 20 years. She loved traveling, after retiring from SEARS. Lucille was a social butterfly, and enjoyed being around people and entertaining, she met NO strangers. Some of her hobbies were sewing, decorating, and crocheting.
Lucille was a faithful and dedicated member of the United House of Prayer. Under Daddy Grace, she was a Mountain Maid, Girl Scout and a Mexican Girl. She organized the drill team called McCollough Jr. WAC, The Nurse Board and The Voices of Unity. She served as Assistant General Secretary and was a member of The Adult Choir which she loved DEARLY. Later, Lucille became a member of the famous Tambourine Band. She also played the piano during service and often singing her favorite song "I'm on My Way Home" during Testimony Service.
Lucille was married to the late Howard F. Martin for 12 years. The union of this marriage produced 7 children.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories her children; Sandra Roberts of Greensboro, Howard F. Martin, Jr. of Kernersville, Cynthia Martin of Chicago, Patricia Martin of Greensboro, Eric Martin of Greensboro, Deborah Martin of Washington, D.C. and Kenneth Martin (Angela) of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren Thomas Roberts II of Ashburn Virginia, Cynthia Kerer of Andechs-Frieding, Germany, Howard F. Martin III (Cherjuan) of High Point, Sonya Baskin (Edward) of Charlotte, Lernard K. Martin (Rosmond) of Greensboro, Kenya Gray, MD of Houston, Texas, Christopher Martin of Greensboro and Angel Martin of Alexandria, Virginia; 10 great grandchildren, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 in Hargett Funeral Service, Inc., 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, August 6 in United House of Prayer for All People, 101 S. Dudley Street, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
