IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lolita Cannon
Page
October 6, 1950 – August 30, 2021
Mrs. Lolita Janinna Cannon Page passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Lolita was born in Saint Petersburg , Florida to the parents of Melvin and Altamese Cannon. She attended Pinellas County Public Schools until her high school years at Notre Dame Academy . Upon graduation in 1968, she attended North Carolina A. and T. State University. There, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education in three years, in 1971, followed by a Master's Degree in Reading, in 1974. She taught in the Guilford County Schools for 36 years. In 2001, she earned National Board Certification in secondary English, the only recipient in her area of expertise in Guilford County Schools that year. Because of her students' high academic achievement and her expertise in the curriculum, she was chosen and complied with the request to write the ninth grade English curriculum for Guilford County Schools.
While attending college, Lolita met and eventually married the love of her life, Kenneth Eugene Page, Sr., Christmas Eve, 1971. The joy of their life, their son, Kenneth E. Page, Jr, was born to this union of 39 years until Ken, Sr.'s passing, November 4, 2011 .
She was a devoted wife, mother and friend who had a generous spirit, a giving heart, and was an expressive conversationalist. Lolita was passionate about decorating, playing double pinochle, reading, shopping, and exploring the arts. She possessed a great sense of humor, an inquisitive mind, a love for gardening, fashion and antiquing. On any given Saturday morning, you could find her at a tag sale with friends until their houses bulged at the seams. She enjoyed being with friends, especially those she knew since kindergarten, in St. Pete, and all the new ones she made, especially the Holland Hall Pinochle Players, including the weekly pinochle players. She loved the Lord and often shared her love for Christ to family, friends, or those in need.
As a member of United Institutional Baptist Church , she developed a stronger relationship with God, especially during her bone marrow transplant in May, 2012.
She was extremely grateful for those caregivers who gave of their time and energy at the Duke Bone Marrow Clinic. She was active in many church-related activities: making morning announcements, updating the marquee, presiding as secretary of Bible Study, delivering the Sunday School financial report, and recording the minutes at various meetings at United. She especially enjoyed her ever-growing Sunday School Class at United.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Kenneth E. Page, Jr., mother, Altamese Cannon; sister, Donna Yvette Cannon; brother, Wendell Melvin Cannon; nephew, Devin Yelverton Cannon; uncle, Dr. John E. Simmons; and numerous other loving cousins, relatives, and very dear friends from Florida and North Carolina.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Gorsuch, Dr. Kim and the wonderful staff at Wesley Long Cancer Center as well as a special thank you to Gwendolyn Gonzalez.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you donate to the American Cancer Society, or a charity of choice.
