IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lillie Mae
Richard
May 10, 1949 – August 11, 2023
Lillie Mae Richard, was born, May 10, 1949 to Alfred G and Eula Mae Richard. She was the 6th child of 11 children.
Despite not having any children of her own, she lovingly referred to her nieces and nephews as her sons and daughters. Lillie's health challenges never hindered her pace. She embraced life passionately, exuding vitality and happiness. Her laughter had an infectious quality, brightening every room. Gospel melodies uplifted her spirit, and she found great joy in listening to inspiring sermons. Remarkably competitive, she especially relished engaging in card games. Her circle of friends and cherished family held immeasurable importance in her heart. The thought of missing a family gathering was truly heart-wrenching for her.
For a significant portion of her life, Lillie resided in New York, where she successfully managed her own restaurant. Later on, she made a transition to Greensboro, where she embarked on a new journey by enrolling in and successfully completing a Diesel Mechanic program.
Lillie's most remarkable trait was her unwavering confidence. Her deep faith illuminated her perspective, and she refrained from ever voicing complaints. Following a stroke that left one side of her body paralyzed, she remained resolute and unyielding. Faced with challenges that could have deterred her, she'd assert, "Don't get it twisted! I've still got one good arm." Beyond her tenacity, she possessed a gift for storytelling that captivated all who listened, and she held onto her aspiration of authoring a book until the very end.
Her legacy will forever embody the genuine affection she showered upon her friends and family. Her profound love for each individual was unmistakable; anyone acquainted with her could attest to this truth. As her final moments approached, she faced them with a graceful demeanor, emanating both resilience and an enduring love for those around her. Her absence leaves a profound void that will be keenly felt, as she is mourned deeply.
Lillie Mae transitioned from this life, leaving in her wake two surviving brothers, Billy Joe and James Daniel Richard. She is also survived by an extensive family circle, including numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, along with a host of cousins and cherished friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 1:30 pm followed by the service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Proximity Mills Cemetery.
