On Tuesday, October 3 our lovely mother departed this life. The Angel took a wonderful mother, sister, relative, and friend. She was the daughter of Socrates Bailey. She was born on February 15, 1932 in Guilford County, NC.
Lillie Mae attended Guilford County Schools. She was employed at Mace Janitor Service for 20 years. She also served faithfully at New Calvary Baptist Church for 40 years where she served on the choir.
She was a strong black woman. Lillie had a heart of gold always feeding you and taking you in; no one was turned down by this beautiful black queen. She was very family oriented and she cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. After being sick she always kept smiling and would say "God got it." But don't let her smile fool you, when she got angry everyone knew it.
Lillie was preceded in death by four daughters, Bettie Malone, Doris Bailey, Alice Deal, and Diana Deal.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Anthony Steeple and Leroy Lamago Steeple (Lisa); daughter, Beverly "Cookie" Clements; brother, Maurice Bailey; sisters, Queen E. Bailey and Geraldine Bailey; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro. Visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
