Obituary

Mrs. Leslie Garrett-Young, 79, peacefully passed away at her home on Tuesday January 30, 2024. "Return to your rest, my soul, for the LORD has been good to you" (Psalms 116:7). Leslie was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Willie Young, her parents, James Robert, Sr. and Aline Garrett Moore, and her sisters, Pamela Moore, Donna Reeves, Gloria McKiver, Amanda Matthews, and Patricia Moore.

In 1945, Leslie was born in Greensboro, N.C. She was always a lover of education. While attending Rena Bullock Elementary School she learned at a young age that she loved school, and education became her passion. She was a proud graduate of James B. Dudley High School, Guilford Technical Institute, North Carolina A&T State University, and the University of Phoenix, earning a Master's of Science in Nursing with a focus on diabetic health, and a Master's in Education. She was always interested in healthcare, starting as a nursing assistant, licensed practical nurse and then a registered nurse. She rose through the healthcare ranks, starting and ending at Wesley Long Hospital, which is now Cone hospital. She was a well-respected and admired healthcare professional, administrator, and dedicated nurse. After raising her five children, Leslie decided to pursue her dream of joining the military, where she proudly served her country as an officer in the United States Army. After serving her last tour in Hawaii she returned home to Greensboro where she continued her career in healthcare. She enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, going on picnics, vacationing at the beach, and taking day trips to the Blue Ridge parkway. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy.

God's favor was abundant in Leslie's life and as a faithful servant to Christ, she blessed so many family, friends, and loved ones in return. She became a member of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, where she remained a faithful servant until her transition to be with the lord.

Survivors include her devoted children, Natalie Smith, Fred M. Pritchett, Jr. (Stacey), Mark Pritchett (Cynthia), Tammy Boone (Carlton), and Chris Pritchett (Yolanda).
