Sgt. Leroy Wilson Weddington departed this life on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. He was born on February 20, 1943, in Concord, North Carolina, to the late Ruby Jane Jimerson and James Edward Jimerson, Sr.
Leroy was educated in the North Carolina School System and graduated from Kingsville High School in Albemarle, North Carolina, with the Class of 1963. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1963. He faithfully served his country for 33 years. During his military career, he worked as an Administrative Technician for nine years, an Administrative Specialist for nine years, and an Apprentice Administrative Specialist for one year.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Leroy continued his strong work ethic and dedication by working for Burger King, where he remained for 20 years before retiring. Leroy was known for his warm spirit and sense of humor—anyone who spent time with him was sure to share a laugh. He enjoyed playing baseball,, golfing, fishing, playing spades, and spending time at family cookouts. He was also a devoted fan of the New England Patriots.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Jane Jimerson and James Edward Jimerson, Sr.; son, Virgil Weddington; sisters, Edna Ernestine Manaway, Karen Denise Sims, and Linda Faye Goins; brothers, William Eugene Jimerson, Arthur Lee Wall, Houston A. Crutchfield, and Girley Roy Bass; uncle, Claude Walls; and sister-in-law, Nancy Wall.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary T. Weddington; sons, Lashawn Weddington, Christopher Totten, and VanNess Totten; daughter, Edwina Turner; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, David Turner (Damita), Clarence Goins, Sr. (Faye), and Andre Sims; sister-in-law, Nancy Jimerson; aunt, Catherine Walls; siblings, Keith Bass, Phyllis Davis (James), Lymon Brown, Elaine Chapman (Deshawn), and James Jimerson, Jr.; best friend/golfing buddy, Ulysses Williams; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Sgt. Leroy Wilson Weddington’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 1 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel; visitation with the family begins at 1:30 pm followed by the service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
