Obituary

On May 27, 1960, Joshua Monroe Copeland was born to Harold Monroe Copeland and Lorene Yancey in Greensboro, North Carolina. He suddenly departed this life on September 12, 2021.

Joshua was the only boy and youngest of four siblings. He spent his youthful years in the Mount Zion community here in Greensboro. From adolescence to his young adult years, Joshua lived in Greenwich and Norwalk, Connecticut with his mother, Lorene Yancey. As an adolescent, Joshua attended school in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Norwalk High School Norwalk, Connecticut in 1978. Following his graduation, in February 1979 Joshua enlisted in the United States Army.

Throughout his military service, he was blessed to serve at various Army posts stateside and abroad. He received numerous medals and awards during his twenty-one years of service. Retiring from active duty, Joshua was honorably discharged in July 1999 as Sergeant First Class.

Not wanting to totally retire from labor, Joshua worked another twenty years with the United States Postal Service (USPS). While employed as a supervisor with the USPS, Joshua worked at various locations throughout the piedmont region of North Carolina.

"Life is good" is how Joshua referred to himself upon his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Joshua was married for more than twenty years to Pamela Joyce Copeland. He loved drag racing and a good home cooked meal. Joshua was a jetsetter, and was looking forward to more travel with his wife, Pamela.

Joshua kept a positive outlook on life and found good in others. You could easily find him helping his family and friends, and he always did so in a considerate manner. Joshua was the glue to the family and he will be sorely missed.

Joshua was preceded in death by his father, Harold Copeland. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Pamela Joyce Copeland; Children: Joshua "EZ" Copeland Jr. (Chrisundra), Isaac Copeland (Shaniqua), Jonathan Copeland (Chauncey), Anthony Miller (Pamela), NaVosha Copeland, Raychel Miller; Mother: Lorene Yancey; Sisters: Merriam Caldwell (Iveory), Ella Copeland and Ercelle Copeland; Sister in Law: Donna Hampton, Brothers in Law: Arthur "Buddy" Evans, Kenneth Evans (Loretta); Grandchildren: Joshua "BJ" Copeland III, Mashyla Copeland, Issac Copeland Jr., Janiya Copeland, Harper Hicks, Madison Copeland, Jonathan Copeland Jr., Jade Copeland, Montrea Smith (Kristin), Maleek Slade, Zack Mackey, Brandon Armstrong, Amiyah Miller, Anthony "AJ" Miller Jr.; Great-Grandchildren: Kaylani Smith, Jayden Smith; Uncle: Theodore Yancey; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 and Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro.  A homegoing celebration will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel.  Visitation with the family begins at 11:00 am followed by the service at 11:30 am.  Interment will follow at Clapp's Chapel Cemetery, Whitsett, NC.
