Johnnie Mae Banks Mosby died peacefully at her home on Monday, November 8, 2021. Born March 25, 1930 in Winnsboro, SC, she was the youngest daughter of the late Ceasar and Susie Gayden Banks. After finishing high school at Fairfield County School in Winnsboro, S.C. Johnnie Mae further matriculated at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C., where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. She earned a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of the District of Columbia, Washington, DC. Johnnie Mae joined civil service and worked ten years in the Federal Government for the Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C. A dedicated educator, Johnnie Mae taught 5th grade for 30 years in the District of Columbia School System. She was a faithful member of her choir at Allen Chapel AME Church, Washington, D.C. and later, Trinity AME Zion Church, Greensboro, N.C. She was active in the Sanctuary Choir and an inductee of the Half Century Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Edward L. Mosby; parents; brothers, Alexander Banks (Minnie), Isaac Banks (Nettie), Celeste Banks (Angeline), Paul Banks (Jennie), David Banks (Julia Ann), Robert Banks, Edward Banks and Daniel Banks; sisters, Willie Mae Banks and Elizabeth Banks Bradford (Ernest). She leaves to cherish her memory, sisters-in-law, Yvette Banks of Sacramento, CA, Hilda Banks of Goldsboro, N.C. and Lauranette Banks of Greensboro, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Maplewood Cemetery, 235 Bingham St, Greensboro, NC 27401. The Rev. Dr. Daran H Mitchell, pastor, will officiate.
