Obituary

John Thomas Sprueil (J.T.) was born October 14, 1924 in Kenly, NC to the late Robert A. Sprueil and Annie B. Atkinson Sprueil. He departed his earthly life and entered into eternal life on December 24, 2015.

J.T. attended public school in Wayne County, NC. He was a 1942 graduate of Fremont High School in Fremont, NC and later attended GTCC in Jamestown, NC.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy.

J.T. was united in holy matrimony on July 16, 1949 to Vera Coley. In 1950, they moved to Summerfield, NC.

His employment included 23 years at Pomona Pipe Products and 33 years at Newman Machine Company. While at Newman Machine Company, he also owned and operated Summerfield 66 Service Station for 23 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Summerfield Fire Department for many years.

J.T. accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and became a faithful member of Hooks Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pikeville, NC. After moving to Summerfield, NC he joined Fairgrove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He also served as church secretary, Deacon Board secretary, usher, and a member of the male chorus.

Left to cherish his precious memory is his loving wife of 66 years, Vera Coley Sprueil of the home; four daughters, Veronica Faye Sprueil of the home, Linda Shoffner of Greensboro, NC, Glenda Simmons (Calvin) of McLeansville, NC, and Joyce Warren of Greensboro, NC; one son, John Thomas Sprueil, II of the home; six grandchildren, Bryan Simmons (Tiffany) of Fincastle, VA, Portia Warren of Greensboro, NC, Amber Warren of Greensboro, NC, Jeremy Warren (Jenna) of McLeansville, NC, Spencer Warren of McLeansville, NC, and Brandon Shoffner of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandchildren, Shakurra Simmons of Greensboro, NC, Ezekiel Warren of McLeansville, NC, and Angelo Brickhouse, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; three sister-in-laws, Atlanta Sprueil of Jacksonville, FL, Rosa Reid of Fremont, NC, and Sarah Sprueil of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

His parents, six sisters, five brothers and three special cousins reared with him preceded him in death.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Fair Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 7912 Summerfield Road, Summerfield, NC. Visitation with the family begins at 11:30 am followed by the service at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
