Jimmie Lawrence Evans, 70, transitioned on Sunday, August 26 th at his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born August 14, 1948 in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Allen Evans, Sr. and Josephine Evans.
Jimmy graduated from James B. Dudley High School. Shortly after high school, he joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy he earned the National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After serving in the Navy, Jimmy was employed by Norfolk Southern Railways. He was employed by them for 35 years as a welder and a car man. Some of Jimmy's favorite pastimes were riding his motorcycle, reading, and listening to jazz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death one week before his passing by his sister, Mickey Evans.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Marian Jones-Evans; stepson, Keith Jones (Kiesha); five siblings, Patricia Oglesby, Allen Evans, Jr., Alliese Evans, Edward "Friday" Evans, and Phyllis Evans Leak all of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren, Greylen and Camryn Jones; and a host of other relatives, family, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Trinity AME Zion Church, 631 E. Florida Street, Greensboro. Visitation with the family begins at 11:00 am followed by the service at 11:30 am. Interment will follow on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Salisbury National Cemetery at 1 pm.
