Jefferson Evell Hayes, known to friends as "Jeff," born January 5th, 1944 passed away peacefully with his children by his side, on August 10th, 2020 at the age of 76 years.

Jefferson was born in Gates, NC and after graduating from High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served a dutiful and heroic service during the Vietnam conflict, in which he was highly decorated and obtained the rank of Staff Sargent.

After 12 years of military service, he moved from Fayetteville, NC to Greensboro, NC with his family and eventually settled in High Point, NC where he continued his career at the U.S. Postal Service. Jefferson also had a few small business and helped support a family business for one of his favorite desserts, cheesecake!

Jefferson had many hobbies and enjoyed fishing, gardening, vacationing with family, basketball, football and shopping. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, Jefferson worked part time and continued with some of his favorite hobbies.

Jefferson is preceded in death by his late parents, William and Catherine Hayes.

He is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his children,  Kendra Cole of Greensboro, NC; Karen Bouldin of Pineville, NC; Kimberly Hayes of Greensboro, NC; Kevin Hayes (Keisha) of High Point, NC; Sharon Powell (Samuel) of Gatesville, NC, and Mervellene Reid (Terrell) of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

There will be a private family memorial held at Hargett Funeral Service on Sunday August 16th, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.
