Janice Harris Holmon, affectionately known as "J.E." or "Nana," was born on November 11, 1950, in Greensboro, NC, to parents Houston and Lois Glover and peacefully passed away on July 28, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her husband and daughter.
Both parents and her brother Terry Glover (Joyce) preceded her in death. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her surviving family members: her loving spouse, William Holmon; her beloved daughter and son-in law, Tera and Chris Rogers, her cherished granddaughters, Dejah and Teran Rogers; her dear sister, Ms. Linda Kay Coleman; her brother Ricky Glover (Sheila), her Niece's Priscilla Gamble (Willie), Nicole Glover, Stacy Robinson (Maseo), Nakia Glover as well as her cousins, great-nieces, and a great-nephew.
Janice's early life was marked by determination and ambition. Janice earned her Bachelor's of Business Administration, with a minor in Accounting from NC A&T University and earned a Masters of Science in Education from the University of Southern California, she excelled in her pursuits becoming a respected educator. Her passion for knowledge and learning led her to a successful career as the owner-operator of Heights Academy, Heights Children's Ranch making a positive impact on the lives of children in her community and consulted on many federal and state government contracts. She was the Family Advocacy Program Director at Central Texas College. Additionally, upon relocating back to North Carolina she contributed to her community as the Director of Student Services at NC A&T and Director of grants and contracts at Bennett College.
More than any accolades in her career, Janice's heart found its true joy in the embrace of her cherished family. As a devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, a caring sister, and affectionately known as "Aunt Janice" to many, her love knew no bounds. Her presence lit up the room, and the sound of her laughter brought an unshakeable joy to those around her. With her funny antics, playful accents, and unique vocabulary, she gifted her loved ones with treasured memories that will forever warm their hearts.
Janice's dedication to family extended beyond her immediate circle. As an active church goer known as "Sister Harris"her kindness, and compassion for others showed. She was also an engaged volunteer for various industries throughout her life, Military Officers wives club, Killeen Independent School District (KISD) PTA, Friends of the Library club, United Way, American Heart Association and the Senior Resource center, and in various roles from President, Chairperson, Treasurer and the capacities as a booster club parent and room mother.
Her warm and compassionate nature endeared her to everyone she met. Janice had a unique way of nurturing her relationships with family and friends, making each one feel valued and loved. Her caring and supportive demeanor made her a confidante and a source of comfort during times of need.
Janice Harris Holmon will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her passion for education, and her heartwarming sense of humor. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
May she rest in peace, knowing that her love and influence continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched.
