Obituary

Janice Greye "Sugar" Brown, née Baldwin, daughter of the late George H. and Fronia Pierce Baldwin, died Wednesday, January 5, 2022 in Greensboro, NC. She was born December 14, 1946 in Kenly, NC.

Sugar, as she was known by family and friends, received her religious upbringing at Mincey Chapel Church in Kenly, NC. In 1965, she graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, NC, where she was a majorette and Homecoming queen.

After high school, she took several courses at a business school. She worked as an administrative assistant in the Guilford County Schools and at the L. Richardson Memorial Hospital.

She married the love of her life, Willie J. Brown Jr. in 1968. They made a home in Greensboro, NC with their three daughters, Kimberly, Dionne, and Candace. Sugar was devoted to her family. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She had a passion for helping her family and others in need with her time, talent, and treasures.

From early in life, Sugar was a fashion trendsetter, often wearing new styles in hair, clothing, and jewelry long before they became popular. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed taking requests from family to prepare their favorite dishes. She liked horseback riding with her husband and held leadership positions in local horse-riding clubs.

In addition to her late parents, Sugar was preceded in death by her daughter Dionne Fronia Brown, sisters Joyce Faye Boyd, Wanda Rose Hamilton, and Tanya Yvonne Ruffin, and brothers Bobby Bunch, Randolph Baldwin, George Ralph Baldwin, Glenn Russell Baldwin, and Ronnie Baldwin.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her husband, Willie J. Brown Jr.; daughters, Kimberly (Richard) Brown and Candace Brown, both of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Kandace Brown, JaNiece Roberson Brown, and Malik Hamilton all of Greensboro, NC; sister Fronia Delilah Walker of Dover, DE; brother, Benny James Baldwin of Frederick, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Public viewing of Mrs. Brown is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday the 14th in Hargett Funeral Service 905 East Market Street  Greensboro, NC.  Visitation with the family is 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday January 15, 2022 in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel,  905 E. Market Street,  Greensboro, NC. the service begins 12 noon.
