GREENSBORO - James Andrew Vample departed this life on December 8, 2010 at Guilford Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. James was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina on March 28, 1922 and is the eldest son of Sion and Bessie Monroe Vample.
A service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:30 p.m., with family visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel, 905 East Market Street. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
During his working years, James was employed by Greensboro News and Record as a metal and iron machinist. His kind ways and a passion for helping others was his trademark. He was always there to assist family and friends through difficult and needy times. James was a loving brother and uncle, a devoted husband, and a doting grandfather. He is survived by two brothers, Jessie Vample of Greensboro, NC and Diego Vamplez of Strasburg, PA, two sisters, Emma Jackson of Durham, NC and Bessie Mae Leach of Marston, NC, one sister-in-law, Virginia Vample of Greensboro, NC, one stepdaughter and a host of step grandsons, nephews and nieces. Three brothers preceded him in death – Willie Vample, Walter Vample, Roosevelt Vample and one sister, Mamie Corbett.
James enjoyed maintaining the lawn at New Zion Baptist Church and providing transportation for those in need of a ride to and from work and medical appointments. He loved his family unconditionally. We will sincerely miss him.
