Mr. James Edward Benton, 62, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2011 as the sun begin to rise surrounded by his family at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. at True Worship Missionary Baptist Church, 3518 Summit Ave. Family hour will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m.

James graduated from Dudley High School, Class of 1969. He worked for Spring Air Mattress for 31 years and later at Elastic Fabrics, until his health declined.

He loved drag racing and was an avid true Redskins football fan. He was a very humble and kind person who loved people.

He was preceded in death by his late father, Jerry Benton, Sr.; two brothers, Jerry Benton Jr. and Timothy Benton.

James was a loving and devoted husband to the love of his life, wife Debra of 41½ years. He is survived by his loving wife Debra, Greensboro; son, Derrick (Andrea) of Maple Hill; daughter, Ashley of Greensboro; three brothers, Don Wade of Jacksonville, FL, Joseph and Kevin Benton of Greensboro; three sisters, Marie Montgomery of Charlotte, Gwendolyn Stewart of Greensboro, and Robin (Mike) Hines of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Jasmine of the home, Jamarl, Jada of Greensboro, Taikeya, Breanna and Derrick Jr. (June Bug) of Maple Hill. A special cousin who was like a brother, Tony Comer of Greensboro.

His favorite saying was "Don't Say Bye, but See You Later"
