In both celebration of her life, and sadness of loss, the family of Helen Lewis Ray announces her passing from this life on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Her sweet and cheerful demeanor was truly a gift from the Lord, and a blessing to all who knew her.
Her husband Bill will miss her most dearly, having loved her as his bride for more than 66 years. She is survived by her sons, David, Tony, and Rick, who knew the protection and nurturing of her grace, love, and selfless maternal affection. Helen will also be fondly remembered by multiple generations, including her grandchildren, Shaina, Caleb, Nowell, Isaac, Justin, and Melissa, and not to exclude others who were a cherished part of her family including Chris and Michelle.
Helen was the daughter of Geneva Stephenson and Arthur Elliott Lewis of Raleigh, North Carolina, and the last surviving of siblings Margaret, Bruce, Mildred, and Worth.
Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Helen attended Mars Hill College before her marriage to Bill. Once married, they moved to Northern Virginia where they raised their family, and became active members of the Wesley UMC, and Centreville UMC. They eventually retired to Greensboro, joining the West Market Street UMC.
A Memorial Service will be held in Leak Chapel, West Market Street UMC in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Family and friends visitation will follow at the family home at 1711 Noble Place, Greensboro, North Carolina.
