Helen Morehead, a life-long resident of Greensboro, NC transitioned on Monday, January 2nd, 2017. Born to Ida Mae Glover and Homer Williams on April 3rd 1940, she graduated from Dudley High School in 1958 and Maco Beauty College in 1959. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Alvis Morehead.
To those who knew her, Helen was a sweet and giving soul with a passion for God, gospel music, travel and family. She quietly provided her harmony to the Poteat Gospel Singers and later the Williams Family group in her youth. Through out her entire life she blended her voice with her church choirs, while listening to her AM stations and attending quartet programs. She was a real songbird as well as a prayer warrior.
Helen worked as a machine operator at Greensboro Manufacturing, in health care at Cone Hospital and later retired from the staff at College Park Baptist Church serving others.
Helen loved her family. She shared and sacrificed so much to make sure her children and later grandchildren had what they needed. She was a dedicated member of Mount Zion Holiness Church as a young lady and of Mount Pleasant Christian church in her latter years.
Helen also loved traveling to visit other congregations and family. If asked or invited to go (wherever), she had her bags packed and was ready to roll. Actually, during one visit to see her sister in New York, we weren't sure that she was coming back!
She is survived by her children: Rodney (Linda), Ronald (Deborah) and Charles (Andrea) Glover, a stepdaughter Venus (Ron) Kerman, a sister: Christine Billups, a brother: Cephas (Sheila) Williams, grandchildren: Selinah, Andrea, Charles, Xavier, Wysheka and Patrice and 4 great grandchildren.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, 1515 Britton Street, Greensboro. Visitation with the family begins at 1:30 pm followed by the service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Proximity Mills Cemetery.
