Helen Sligh Courts born May 29,1935 to Joseph Sligh and Jesse Ruff Sligh in Newberry, SC. she was the eldest of three daughters.
Helen moved to Greensboro, NC at an early age and attended the Greensboro City Schools, Graduating from James B. Dudley Senior High School, Class of 1955. Helen was involved in basketball, dance group and homecoming court.
Helen married the love of her life, John E. Courts and to this union five children were born. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. she was kind, loving, and generous, with a smile that illuminated every room she entered. she was an accomplished seamstress, a wonderful cook and a floral enthusiast with a green thumb.
Helen was a woman of great faith and very active as a member of Saint James Baptist Church until her health declined. she served on the usher board, the Deaconess Board and sang in the Will Green Gospel Choir and PEG Choral Guild.
Helen was employed with Western Electric (AT&T) for nearly 30 years. after her retirement she enjoyed traveling, bowling, driving for the cancer society, sitting with the elderly, and most of all spoiling her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John E courts her parents Joseph and Jesse Sligh, and two sisters, Dorothy Jacobsen, and Jonell Surgeon.
Celebrating her homegoing are her children Joyce courts Williams, Rhonda courts clapp (terry), Deborah courts Johnson, Anthony "tony" courts, Junita courts Thompson; grandchildren Ray A. Johnson jr (Akeisha), Kiyanna Clapp, Adriane clapp brown (Glenn), Shannon Martin, Eunice Johnson, Nicholas Thompson, Randais "JR" Thompson (Ashley), and Asia Thompson; great grandchildren, Jaylen Samaria, Dasia, Aubrey, Joycelyn, Andre, and Denim; In-laws, joseph courts, Ruth warner (Perry Sr.), James Courts, (Barbara), Brenda Jones, Jerome courts, Alice courts, Paul Haizlip, and Donald "chuck" Thomas; a special aunt Lucy Sligh; three special cousins, James cook, Thomasena Moore (Walter), and Rose Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Public viewing of Mrs. Courts is 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Friday the 01st in Hargett Funeral Service 905 East Market Street Greensboro, NC A private Homegoing Celebration will be 1:00 Saturday, October 2, 2021 at St. James Baptist Church, 536 W. Florida Street, Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park 3600 N. O'Henry Blvd Greensboro, NC. Livestreaming of the service is available. The Livestream code is: courts100221
