Helen Bernice Hough Campbell was born in Anson County on October 7, 1938 to the late Jack and Callie Hough. She was the third child of fourteen children. She heard the Master’s voice, felt his touch and peacefully responded to his call on Monday, August 17, 2026 at her residence.
She was a 50+ year member of Reid Memorial CME church, serving faithfully on the Stewardess Board and Missionary Board. She was employed by the Cross Family (Pat) for 20+ years until she retired.
Helen was an excellent cook, and got joy out of preparing food for her family. Everyone loved her signature sweet potato pies!!
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, John O. Campbell; brothers, Thomasene Hough, William Joe Hough and James Edward Hough; sisters, Beulah Mickle, Everleen Little, and Amy Lee McNeil; one sister-in-law, five brothers-in-law and an infant sibling.
Those left to cherish her memories: son, Aaron L. Hough (Jamie); daughters, Linda B. Campbell of Greensboro, NC and Stacy J. Campbell of the home and her caregiver; grandchildren, A’carlos D. Hough, Helenia B. Hough, Wanda L. Reid, Shamicka T. Hough, Aaron L. Hough Jr., Reshanda Reid, Ashley D. Robinson, A’lehlia Bell (Tracy); fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Callie Powe (Ronald), Mattie Crowder, Irene Mason (James), Johnsie Hough, Anniesene Hough, and Glenda Ann Spencer (Ernest); sisters-in-law, Eula M. Powe of Chesterfield SC, Evelyn Campbell, Edith Campbell and Gwen Hammond all of Greensboro, NC, and Willette Hough of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Otis C. Campbell (Deloris); along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 21 at Hargett Funeral Service, Inc., 905 E. Market Street, Greensboro from 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, August 22 at Reid Memorial CME, 1010 Bennett Street, Greensboro; visitation with the family begins at 10:30 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
