IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hattie Lee
Morehead Crutchfield
September 6, 1918 – September 2, 2018
Early Sunday morning, September 2, 2018, Hattie M. Crutchfield made the transition from this life peacefully to the new Heaven and Earth. She fought a good fight; she finished the race, and kept the faith!
Hattie was born on September 6, 1918 to the late George H. and Mattie Pearl Morehead in Guilford County.
Hattie received her education in the Guilford County Public School System; a graduate from James B. Dudley High School. After graduation, she began working as a housekeeper in various homes and keeping children. As years went by she was employed at Lane's Laundry for several years. Later on in life, she was employed at Griffin Baking Company.
Hattie was joined in holy matrimony to Norman S. Crutchfield in 1956. They were married for 44 years. During their marriage, they were very instrumental in getting a street light and paving their street, Herbin Street. They also owned several rental properties.
A long serving and dutiful member of Persimmon Grove AME Church, she served on several committees: the Missionary Society, Stewardess, & the Food Committee.
In addition to her parents, George H. & Mattie Pearl Morehead, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman S. Crutchfield; sisters, Viola Mary Jones, Ada A. Lindsay, Margaret Tatum, Marie Marion, and Pearl Cochran; and brothers, Fuller David Morehead, Henry Morehead, George Mitchell, and Allen Morehead.
Left to honor the legacy of Hattie M. Crutchfield are: her only surviving brother, Joseph Morehead of Oak Ridge, NC; special niece & companion of 17 plus years, Shirley M. Simmons and oldest niece, Gertrude Lindsay Goodall; one sister-in-law, Bessie Crutchfield Jones; one great, great grandson, Maurion Coleman Simmons; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A special thanks to many others that impacted her life: Liz Jones, family friend and guardian, and several care takers at different facilities.
A homegoing celebration will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Persimmon Grove AME Church, 403 Dolley Madison Road, Greensboro. The service will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the interment in the church cemetery.
