IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gillis Edward
Hopkins
May 31, 1932 – October 15, 2023
Gillis Edward Hopkins, son of the late Willie and Lucy Hopkins, was born May 31, 1933 in Macon, North Carolina. He peacefully entered his eternal rest on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Beacon Place of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gil', as he was known to many, was educated in the Warren County school system and was a 1951 graduate of North Warren High School in Wise, North Carolina. He continued his education through military service in the United States Army and attended Oklahoma State University for further studies. He served over forty years with the United States Postal Service as an engineer in the Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) department and was a dedicated member of the Mount Zion Baptist church of Greensboro.
Gillis is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing: two daughters, Joan H. Jiminez (Carlton) of Daytona Beach, Florida and Jean H. Simmons of Sterling, Virginia; his beloved grandsons, Winston Jiminez of Port Orange, Florida and Kedar Simmons of Sterling, Virginia; sisters, Alvin Alston of Macon, North Carolina and Carrie Craddox (James) of South Hill, Virginia; brother, Richard Hopkins (Ann) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and a host of cousins, nieces/nephews, family, and friends.
A special "Thank you" to the care team at Beacon Place of Greensboro and to his niece, Milicent Hopkins, for her unwavering love and support.
There will be no formal service.
I'm at Rest
Think of me as one at rest,
for me you should not weep.
I have no pain, no troubled thoughts,
for I am just asleep…
