George J. Morehead was born on December 31, 1928, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He peacefully transitioned to his rest on July 30, 2026.

George attended Woodyside Schools of Guilford County and graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1948. He later enlisted in the US Army, served three years, and received an honorable discharge. He was employed at Lays Potato Chip, Griffin Pie Co., and retired from Cone Mills-White Oak Plant.

George was united in holy matrimony on June 2, 1956; to this union one child was born, Rita. He was married for 70 years.

He was a lifelong member of Raleighs Crossroads United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, United Methodist Men, and the Male Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry M. and Annie H. Morehead; and one brother, John H. Morehead.

George is survived by his wife, Mae Morehead, of the home; daughter, Rita M. Pemberton, of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held Thursday August 6, 2026 at Hargett Funeral Service 905 E market st Greensboro from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Raleigh Crossroads UMC 715 Guilford College Rd Greensboro, NC 27409; Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 pm followed by the service at 12:30 pm.
