IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Florine Irvin
Stafford
November 23, 1934 – January 11, 2025
Florine Carolyn Ozetta Irvin Stafford was born November 23, 1934, the only child of Earl Irvin and Ruthie Troxler Irvin. She departed this life peacefully January 11, 2025, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Osburne C. Stafford, and her parents.
"Flo", as she was affectionately known, gained her early childhood education at the Lutheran School. She graduated from James B Dudley High School in 1951 at the age of 16. She attended North Carolina A&T State University where she acquired a degree in Biology. While there she joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Zeta Nu Chapter. She was the First Queen of the Beta Nu Zeta Debutante Ball. Upon graduating she began working at A&T's F. D. Bluford library, where she became skilled in library sciences and served on various committees. She loved her sorority and held many positions through the years including treasurer and historian. During this time, she mentored hundreds of young women in their academic and professional pursuit of finer womanhood. She retired from NCA&TSU after 41 years of dedicated service. In an interview with the High Point Enterprise that honored the retiring workers, she commented, "I met so many people there…It was a wonderful place to work". In retirement she enjoyed other social pursuits including lifetime membership in the Double Deckers, Pinochlettes and Square Dames card game clubs.
She married Osburne in 1962, a union to which bore and is survived by four wonderful children whom are left to cherish her memory: Stacia M Stafford, Stephanie S Bass (Alvin), Sonya S Stafford, Armand C Stafford (Christina); grandchildren Kendal A. Bass, Alvin C. K. Bass, step-grandchildren Rashae' Bronner, Ashlei Smith, step-great-grandchildren Cameron, Christian, Cataleya, Allyson and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be Saturday, January 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1414 Gorrell Street, Greensboro; Sorority Ceremony and visitation with the family begins at 1:00 pm followed by the service at 1:30 pm.
