Elmer Legrand departed this life on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital. A native of Biscoe, NC, he was the youngest son of the late Junior Legrand and Monnie Butler Legrand. He was preceded in death by his wife Elosie Williams Legrand.
Elmer was an active community member. He checked in on neighbors from time to time. He visited family and friends in his hometown monthly. He attended St. James Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He has been a faithful member since the 1960s. He served in the United States Army until October 1961. He is a life member of Khalif Temple #144, Prince Hall Mason, St. John Lodge #12 and the Greensboro Consistory #106. He founded Sanford Gardens, formerly known as Khalif Homes, INC. in 1980, along with other members of Khalif Temple, where he still holds the title of President. Sanford Gardens is an affordable housing project for individuals 62 and older, he visited the staff and residents regularly.
He is survived by his two daughters: Alisa Chisolm and Eleanor Legrand (Anthony Williams), two granddaughters: Jaala Chisolm, Tiffany Crump, close family friend, Ricky Chisolm and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, whom he loved dearlyVisitation
