Mr. Elmer M. Austin, Jr., son of Elmer M. and Dorothy T. Austin, who preceded him in death, was born December 11, 1949 in Greensboro, NC. Elmer, affectionately known as Flute, gained his wings and placed his hand into God's hand on December 28, 2023 for his eternal rest.

Elmer graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1968. While at Dudley, Flute was an outstanding basketball player. His skills on the court earned him a scholarship to attend and play basketball for the NC A&T Blue and Gold Basketball Team. Once again, he soared to new heights that earned him many honors and accolades. He graduated as a member of the class of 1972 with a degree in Physical Education.

Flute was united in marriage to Bernadette Crawford Austin. To this union were born one daughter and two sons, one of whom, Jaimey, preceded him in death.

Survivors include: daughters, Teressa (Richard) and Gerri; son, Elmer M. Austin,111 (Maria); grandchildren, Alexis, Briaynna, Amiri, Jordyn, Eugene, and Tyson; step-granddaughter, Taylor; step-grandson, Zachary; great-grands, Tahj, Kaycen, and Kaiden; step great-grands, Karmyn and Antoine. Also mourning his loss are Bernadette Austin, Keisha Little (a special friend); brother/uncle, Reginald Triplin (Helen), Linda Triplin Jones and Joyce Williams (special cousins) and a host of other family members and friends.

Public viewing of Mr. Austin is Thursday, January 04, 2024 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. in Hargett Funeral Service, 905 East Market Street, Greensboro, NC. Visitation with the family and the funeral service is 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon respectively on Friday January 05, 2024 in The Goldie Hargett Memorial Chapel of Hargett Funeral Service.
