Elder Robert
Tate, Jr.
June 27, 1931 – September 20, 2020
Elder Robert R. Tate, Jr. passed gently away early Sunday Morning, September 20, 2020 at his home in Greensboro, NC surrounded by family. Born to the Late Robert and Hattie Tate, he was second oldest of six brothers and sisters.
Robert attended James B. Dudley High School and in 1953 enlisted in the United States Army serving in Germany in transportation.
Robert was a hardworking and committed employee receiving many accolades. He was employed full time at P. Lorillard, retiring after thirty years and working part time at Sears and Roebuck for 24 years while serving as Pastor at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC for twelve years, During this time he had a weekly radio preaching ministry at WPOL 1340 Radio Station. He was founder and current Pastor of "The Church of the First Born" located at 2139 Textile Drive, Greensboro, NC.
Elder Tate is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Addie Williams and Betty McMurray.
Elder Tate is survived by his loving wife, Clara G. Tate of the home; two sisters, Marie Millings of Kernersville, NC and Missionary Barbara Tate Wiley; two brothers, Charles Tate of Greensboro, NC and Bishop Lawrence Tate (Brenda ) of Kernersville, NC; two step daughters, Ida Glover and Tarra Vincent Smith; step great granddaughter, Carleta Deal; great-great granddaughter, Nola (whom he loved); two step grandsons, Jermaine and Damont Johnson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and loving relatives along with His faithful and caring members of The Church of the First Born!
A private graveside funeral is 12:45 pm Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Guilford Memorial Park 6000 W. Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC
