Foust Duren
December 9, 1928 – May 22, 2018
Early Tuesday morning on May 22, 2018, Elda Virginia Foust Duren was called home to the loving arms of our Lord. May she rest in peace as she reunites with her parents, John and Mary Foust; her brother, Alfred Foust; and sisters, Rosalie Foy, Mary Quick, Loretta Jones, Alma Fox and her beloved daughter, Paula Antoinette Duren Shepard.
After graduating from Sedalia High School, Elda attended the L. Richardson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse with the class of 1952. Her first job after graduation was working as a nurse in Dr. Howard L. Little's office in her hometown of Gibsonville, N.C.
Throughout her career, Elda provided excellent care to patients at The Polio Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord, N.C., L. Richardson Memorial Hospital, Cone Hospital, Bennett College and The U.S. Postal Service in Greensboro, N.C.
She joined Trinity AME Zion Church in the early 1960's, participating in the following ministries: The Sanctuary, Gospel and Early Morning Choirs, Class Leader, Daughters of Conference, Missionaries, Health Ministry and Birthday Calendar Club.
Elda married Robert Benson Duren on September 12, 1953 and to this union was born Robert Benson Duren, II (Ezekiel Ben-Israel), Paula Antoinette Duren Shepard and Regina Lynn Duren. Elda is survived by Ezekiel and Regina, Deborah L. Mitchell (sister), Ruth S. Foust (sister-in-law), eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
